Upload your EIN letter

We need the IRS letter with your company number to register your texting number. The registry checks the exact legal name on the paper, so we need the letter itself, not a name told by phone.

Three ways to get it. Start with the first one that works for you:

⚡ 1. Download it from the IRS (fastest)

The IRS now lets you download your current EIN notice (a new CP575) from your Business Tax Account. It is free. A sole owner has it the same day; a company waits the first time for a PIN the IRS sends by mail (about 5 to 7 days). It replaces the old CP 575 and the 147C.

Can my business use it?

⚠
Not yet for this one

A single-member LLC that files as a sole owner (Schedule C or F) cannot use it yet. Use way 2 or way 3.

Sign in or create your account

Go to sa.www4.irs.gov/bola. Sign in, or create the account. The IRS checks your identity online first.

Who signs in

The owner. For a corporation, an officer of the company (like the president).

If it is a company: add it and wait for the PIN

The first time, add your company to the account and ask to be its representative ("Designated Official"). The IRS mails a letter with a PIN (CP 311) to the business address; it usually arrives in about 5 to 7 days. Enter that PIN in your account (you have 30 days) and you can download your notice. If you are a sole owner, go to the next step.

Open "Tax Records"

Find the EIN verification notice (CP575) and download it.

Upload it

On your welcome page, tap the EIN letter button. The PDF is fine.

✅ 2. Your old CP 575, if it is still current

Find it

Search your email for "EIN", "CP 575" or "IRS". Or look in the papers from when you opened your business bank account.

Check two things

The business name and the address on the letter must be the ones you use today. Both the same? It works. Not the same? Use way 1 or way 3.

Upload it

On your welcome page, tap the EIN letter button. A photo or a PDF is fine.

📞 3. Ask the IRS for a 147C

Way 1 does not work for you, and the CP 575 is old or lost? Ask the IRS for a 147C letter. It is a new copy with the data the IRS has today.

Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., your local time. (Alaska and Hawaii: Pacific time.) Call right at 7 a.m.: the wait is shorter.

You call, as the owner

The IRS gives the letter to the owner or an officer of the company (like the president). Someone else, like your accountant, can ask for it only if the IRS has your signed authorization form (Form 8821 or Form 2848). No form on file? Then you call.

Have this ready

The company's legal name, the EIN, the address the IRS has, and your name and title.

Get to a person

Listen to the menu and pick the option for an EIN you already have. Wait for a person.

Ask for the letter

Read this when they answer:

Read this on the call
Hi, I am the owner of [company name]. I need a 147C letter for my EIN, please.

By mail, or by fax if you have one

By mail: it goes to the address the IRS has on file, in about 7 to 14 days. By fax: the same day, only if you have a fax number to give them.

Old address on the IRS record?

Ask on the same call how to update it. For a new business address, the IRS uses Form 8822-B.

No fax and you cannot wait for the mail? Only as a last resort: a free fax app that gives you a number for 24 hours can receive it. Use it only if you have no other way.

Only if Slate asks you: on the same call, ask "What legal name and address do you have on file for my EIN?" and text us the answer. Do this only when we ask. We still need the letter.

📤 Send it to us

Upload the letter on your welcome page (the EIN letter button), or text us a photo. With it we register your number.
